As a school teacher who recently took stage 5 Outdoor Education students on a surf camp, I can wholeheartedly recommend Gary Hughes Surf School. From the moment we arrived, Gary and his team provided amazing service, demonstrating both expertise and an infectious passion for surfing. Over the course of three lessons, their patience and clarity in instruction were evident, ensuring that every student felt confident and supported. The team went above and beyond, not only guiding the students through the basics of surfing but also creating an atmosphere of encouragement that made the entire experience enjoyable. I was particularly impressed by their ability to tailor the lessons to the individual needs of each student, allowing them to progress at their own pace while ensuring they all succeeded in standing up and riding the waves.

Gary’s Surf School offers much more than just a lesson in surfing; it’s an experience that fosters teamwork, confidence, and resilience. With every student achieving their goal of standing up on the board, it's clear that the lessons were both effective and inspiring. Students talked on the bus ride home about asking for surfboards for Christmas and continuing to improve their surfing. Gary is now a registered supplier with the Department of Education and is well-equipped to cater to school groups and educational needs. Gary and his crew led an awesome lesson for our kids. Really nice bunch of instructors and they got our kids up on a bunch of waves. Really appreciate their effort this morning. Kids were stoked!

Gary and the team are highly recommended. We spontaneously inquired the evening before and were able to book for our children at short notice for the next day. The team took great care and helped our children in a child-friendly way. Absolutely top class! We would do it again in a heartbeat.

My 13 y.o. daughter had an individual lesson with Gary … & can’t wait to do another. Gary has so much knowledge of surfing & the sea, is encouraging, patient, kind & thoughtful in his teaching style. Wonderful start to the morning & valuable experience to ensure this beginner develops her interest in this sport 🏄‍♀️ & her love of the water safely & responsibly.

I had the best 1:1 lesson with Gary today! I made good progress in just an hour or so, and came home smiling from ear to ear. Gary explained everything so clearly. Would 100% recommend!

Absolutely awesome experience! I contacted Gary to get some lessons as I’m a beginner needing to advance on holiday from Sydney. I arranged four private lessons over 2 weeks and learnt so much! Gary always stayed in touch - delivered on his promises and gave regular surf updates. He taught me heaps of awesome theory and got me to advance heaps in that time including the pop up which I never thought I could do - and how to ride waves with more weight on my front foot!! Great place to learn as there are many beaches to choose from depending on your level and the swell. To top it off Gary is just a super top bloke - really encouraging - and great company to hang out with beyond the waves! Highly recommend this experience and will be back again - thanks to Gaz and his lovely wife Angelica for looking out for me and for the local knowledge which also benefited my husband 🤗🤗🙏🙏

Family of four aged from 10 to 54. None of us had surfed previously, but Gary and the team looked after us extremely well. Rough seas, but he knew where to take us to make it enjoyable. We were all up on our feet and loving it. Cannot recommend Gary Hughes Surf School highly enough.

Fantastic experience. Everything was lined up perfectly, super easy to arrange, great location. Gary and his team are friendly and awesome with the kids, really encouraging and building their confidence. Awesome Coach/Student ratio with small groups. Had a fantastic time. Highly recommend.

I’m an intermediate surfer and came up to Boomerang for a long weekend. I took a private lesson with Gary to work on technique and various bad habits and had one of the best sessions of my life. With Garys help I achieved a few firsts and came away very happy. Would highly recommend Gary to any surfer of any level looking to start out or improve with Boomerang being the perfect uncrowded location.

Gary and Angelica were absolute legends! Gary had my partner and I standing up in no time, and quickly got us to the stage where we could 'head out the back'. We had such a great time we had two days back to back lessons. Very professional - I learned a lot, and will be back next time.
